Laos: Vientiane und Tubing in Vang Vieng

Von Bangkok aus ging es mit dem Nachtbus weiter nach Laos. Vientiane ist zwar die Hauptstadt und größte Stadt des Landes, aber mit 300000 Einwohnern vergleichsweise klein.
Mehrere Reisende hatten mir vor der Fahrt nach Vientiane gesagt, dass es dort nicht viel zu sehen gebe und das die Stadt recht langweilig sei. Sie haben recht behalten. Sehenswürdigkeiten und Aktivitäten gibt es abgesehen von ein paar Tempeln, dem Nachtmarkt und dem Mekong nicht viel. So kam es, dass ich schon nach zwei Nächten nach Vang Vieng aufbrach.

Vang Vieng ist umgeben von wunderschöner Natur. Es gibt Berge und Höhlen zu entdecken. Alles umgeben von endlos weiten Feldern. Man kann diverse Trecking- und Biketouren unternehmen oder einfach nur in einer Hängematte, einen Cocktail schlürfend, am Nam Son River entspannen.

Vang Vieng hat aber auch noch eine ganz andere Seite. Das berühmt berüchtigte Tubing ist nach wie vor möglich. Beim Tubing lässt man sich mit einem Gummireifen, in der Regel mehr oder weniger stark angetrunken, einen Fluss heruntertreiben. Mehrere Bars und Aktivitäten entlang des Flusses wurden zwar in den letzten Jahren von der Regierung geschlossen, da es jedes Jahr regelmäßig zu tödlichen Unfällen gekommen ist, aber das ganze Spektakel wird nach wie vor veranstaltet. Einen Abend zuvor hatte ich die passende Gruppe für diesen Trip kennengelernt und so ging es dann am nächsten Morgen los zur ersten Fluss-Bar, welche als Startpunkt dient. Von hieraus geht es dann mit dem Gummireifen flussabwärts und man kann an mehreren Punkten stoppen. Dazu wird man mit einem Seil an Land gezogen. Laute Musik, verrückte Menschen, Beerpong spielen und Schlammbaden, hier gibts alles was das Herz begehrt. Definitiv einer der spaßigsten Tage meiner Reise!
Anschließend kann man den Abend in den diversen Lokalitäten der Stadt ausklingen lassen. Wie schon in Bangkok scheint das Lachgas inhalieren auch hier ein großer Trend zu sein…
Übrigens sind grad tonnenweise Koreaner in Laos und ganz speziell in Vang Vieng. Dort lief wohl eine Show über ein paar Koreaner, welche durch Laos reisten, im Fernsehen. So eine Art Joko und Klaas auf koreanisch quasi. Auf jeden Fall sind seitdem alle Flüge von Korea nach Laos ausgebucht.

Am folgenden Tag habe ich mich dann noch zu einer Wander- bzw. Klettertour aufgerafft, um einen der unzähligen Berge der Umgebung zu erklimmen. Es war jeden Schweißtropfen wert und die Aussicht einfach toll. Auf dem Gipfel haben wir sogar noch ein paar Mönche getroffen.

Die blaue Lagune ist ebenfalls noch eine Touristenattraktion, der sich wohl kein Besucher entziehen kann. Hier kann man gut entspannen und sich z.B. mit einem Seil ins Wasser schwingen. in unmittelbarer Nähe gibt es dazu noch eine Höhle zu besichtigen.

Laos gefällt mir gut. Der etwas trockene Start in Vientiane wurde wenig später von den Möglichkeiten und der tollen Landschaft Vang Viengs wieder gutgemacht. Ich bin gespannt wie es weitergeht.
